Castle in the Sky (part 2)
5 Hammer 1490 DR
After our well deserved rest we continued on into the castle. Luna was attacked by a stone golem but Catscratch remembered the password Talis told us and saved us a fight. We explored every room before finally finding and attacking Razmir. Luna ran in and was attacked by a magic rug. Dire and Catscratch fought the two guard drakes while Luna broke out of the rugs grasp and I went for Rezmir herself. She casted some sort of darkness spell which made things a little harder but in the end we finished her off.
A chest revealed the indent of where a Dragon Mask would have been but thanks to our magic users they were able to tell that the mask had been teleported away once Rezmir was killed. A loud alarm also rang out. Luna disguised herself as Rezmir and tried to trick those who asked about the alarm. Not sure it worked on the Red Wizard though.
We decided to split up to cover more ground. Luna and I would head up the stairs, escorted by kobolds, to the control room while Dire and Catscratch went to take care of the Red Wizards. We parted ways and hurried up the icy stairway. As we entered a large icy chamber we saw a White Dragon sitting on a pile of gold. The dragon thought we were just coming to check up on him so thanks to Luna stealing a bunch of food from the cabin, we gave some offerings and hurried out of there.
On the top deck of the castle, a group of trolls approached us. They somehow knew we weren't part of the cult and attacked us immediately. The trolls were strong and Luna and I struggled to kill them all. Dire and Catscratch arrived in the nick of time to help us out. We slayed the group and continued to investigate.
We gladly took a long rest in a small cave to replenish our strength before continuing on with our mission. Thanks to Yuriel, the Air Genasi, she was able to float up onto the balcony of a large tower and secure a rope for us to be able to climb up. Inside, I climbed down an icy staircase with Dire as he confronted the vampires feeding at the bottom. We learned that the cult wasn't always into the idea of raising Tiamat or dealing with living dragons. They originally only wanted to create Dracoliches.
We fought the vampires, many of us being bitten, and finally won the battle thanks to Yuriel's stealth skills. We took one more small rest and headed to a large room. We climbed up the wall and ended up in a Cloud Giants bedroom. He wasn't really hostile and wanted to help us take control of the castle since the cult had his wife imprisoned somewhere. He also told us that we needed to kill the White Dragon to get the gem that opens the door to the control room.
With that new plan, we headed back downstairs into the icy catacombs. When we arrived the dragon was no where to be seen until it dropped down from the ceiling, catching me in its claws. I was no match and couldn't break free as it bite into me and crushed my ribs. I yelled out in pain as the others tried to attack the creature.
Once I finally escaped, the dragon used it's ice breath on all of us. The freezing cold breath knocked out Catscratch but Dire quickly brought him back. Yuriel climbed onto the dragons back and noticed the gem was actually being used as one of the dragons teeth. She jumped, stabbing a dagger into it's jaws, and used another dagger to pull the gem out of it's gums. She grabbed the gem and hurried back into the shadows.
Cultists came to defend the dragon but in the end we prevailed. We looted the pile of gold and hurried to the control room. All the magic runes were in Dwarvish, which I could read, so I was able to turn off the alarm. I decided to let Catscratch drive the castle and we arrived back in Phandalin. We were greeted by Sildar and the rest of the townsfolk.
